History
Modern
We are part of the revolution of communities around Hawai`i and around the world that see the urgent need to not only grow our own food again, but care for this land that completely cares for us.
This year, Hoea Ea: Return to Freedom, comes home to Hilo Hanakahi - our beloved Keaukaha - where we will, together, practice ways of sustainably cultivating the `aina so that generations to come will be able to thrive in this place.
Last year, the Waipa community hosted their Food Sovereignty Gathering, appropriately named Ho`oulu Aina.
In 2007, Hoea Ea was first hosted in Hawai`i.
Ancient
The Ahupua`a system inherently includes principles of interdependence, caring for each other, and sustainability. By taking care of our individual kuleana, we take care of our part of the whole.
