Kaiao Garden

We are in full swing in the garden this semester with groups and classes happening almost every day! We are learning heaps with natural farming inputs, composting, art projects, planting & harvesting and most of all, WORKING TOGETHER!
This summer we have 3 special events at Kaiao Garden involving education and the community. They are as follows:
1. Keiki, Creativity,Kaiao- A two week youth camp, June 14-18, 21-24, 9 a.m -12p.m, for keiki ages 8 and up to explore gardening, writing, and art. Daily activities are planting, weeding,and watering, garden inspired writing and art projects.
2. Place-Based Education: A Literature and Writing Odyssey for Changing Times, June 28-July 2, 9am-3p.m., A writing literature workshop for teachers exploring cosmological stories and relationship to place. We will focus on practice of place-based education to deepen our love and knowledge of Hawaii through understanding our collective odyssey of awakening.
3.Tropical Sustainable Agriculture: A Community Garden Agriculture Class,Ag 294, through the Department of Agriculture, UH Hilo.This hands on class will be held July 5- July 30, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 9 a.m-12p.m, Kona Weekend Trip,July 16,17,18, and two day trips. We will explore organic farming techniques, natural farming, composting, square foot gardening, and the joy of community garden stewardship. Please register through the UH Hilo, special summer electives.

PLEASE: COME AND JOIN US! We open the garden for all to come on Saturday morning from about 9:00 - noon. (stay for potluck lunch!)
Where? Kaiao Garden is behind the Boys and Girls Club of Hilo off of Haili St. (Going up Haili St. turn left on Laimana St and we are just on the left!)
